Spacecraft educational simulator. What is it for?

Flint Systems simulators can be divided into two parts based on their purpose. These are training and educational simulators. Educational simulators differ slightly from typical training simulators, primarily because they are not designed to improve specific professional skills. Let’s illustrate this using the example of an educational spacecraft simulator.

Flint Systems, in collaboration with SLASE, provided a spacecraft simulator for the University of Wrocław (specifically, four flight simulator stations in space). The simulator was created at the request of the University and is located at the Astronomical Observatory in Białków. You can learn more about the project by clicking this link.

Educational Simulator for the University of Wrocław

The order entailed delivering four simulation stations along with assembly to the astronomical observatory in Białków. The simulators use VR technology, and the simulation scenario involves a fifteen-minute journey through the Solar System in a spacecraft, during which we explore and learn about individual planets and moons.

The simulator is intended for school youth, who can enhance their knowledge of astronomy in an attractive way. The simulator is an excellent means to present the difficult-to-imagine sizes of planets and learn basic facts about them. The attractiveness of presenting content undoubtedly influences their memorization and, additionally, in many cases, influences the desire to further delve into space-related topics.

More about educational simulators

The educational simulator is a comprehensive tool that consists of an application or a movie integrated with a motion platform. This allows us to present various content that will be perceived by many senses, as the simulator provides full immersion in the virtual environment. This enables a more effective reception of the content, as participants are more engaged and absorbed in the presented materials.

In contrast to a training simulator, an educational simulator does not impart specific skills needed for a profession. It is an auxiliary tool for acquiring knowledge, serving to broaden interests and to some extent, for entertainment purposes. Moreover, it is much simpler to use.

New educational spacecraft simulator

Inspired by the project implemented for the Wrocław university, we decided to create a new educational space flight simulator. It was created again with the SLASE team.

It differs from the simulator delivered to the observatory in Białków primarily in that it presents different content that can be offered by Flint Systems to new customers. Additionally, we can modify the displayed movie according to the buyer’s requirements. Besides educational content, it includes elements that allow it to have an even more attractive content, such as other spacecraft and vehicles, etc.

Advantages of the educational simulator

The educational simulator has many advantages. These include primarily:

  • Realistic experiences of being in a specific place (space, the depths of the ocean, jurassic park, the interior of the Earth, any other chosen environment/setting)
  • The possibility of learning hard-to-imagine concepts
  • Learning in an accessible form
  • An innovative form of knowledge popularization; VR is a popular medium
  • The simulator supports teachers and traditional school education

Who can be interested?

Educational simulators have become a key element of modern education. Thanks to their very easy operation, they can effectively bring specific knowledge closer to a relatively large number of people. Using the example of a space flight simulator, we are able to offer educational simulators (not only for space flight but also created on request) to a large number of companies and institutions, such as:

  • schools and educational institutions
  • science centers
  • museums
  • art galleries
  • cultural institutions
  • scientific institutions
  • entertainment centers

Educational simulators are an innovation in the field of education. They serve to arouse interest and present difficult topics in an accessible way to the recipient. Who knows, perhaps many future astronauts will start their first journey into space on a spacecraft simulator.
